H. E. General C.S. Weerasoorlya High Commissioner of
Sri Lanka visited "Made in Gujranwala 2003" Industrial Exhibition
with his wife on March 20, 2003. He was received at the main gate of the
"Made in Gujranwala 2003" Industrial Exhibition by Kh. Tahir
Hassan President of the GCCI, Haji Ihsan Ullah Chughtai SVP, Ch. Shafiq
Ahmed Shahid VP, Sh. Muhammad Naseem Chairman Organizing Committee of
"Made in Gujranwala 2003" Industrial Exhibition, Sh. Muhammad
Aslam Vice Chairman, Muhammad Akram Badshah Convenor Exhibition and rest
of the members of the organizing committee and members of the executive
committee of the GCCI.

He visited every stall with his wife and exchanged his ideas with the
stallholders. He took keen interest in Pakistani quality products and
praised the arrangements of exhibition and said “I wish that trade
between Pakistan and Sri Lanka could flourish more than the past in different
industrial field. He said that Pakistani engineering products are very
popular in Sri Lanka especially electric fan, electric motors, washing
machines, geyers, water pumps and transformers can easily be exported
to Sri Lanka. He said after the free trade agreement between Pakistan
and Sri Lanka business activities will flourish between the two respective
countries. He said Pakistan’s engineering industry is playing significant
role in the economic development of the country. He said its performance
and capacity to produce a whole wide range of products, light engineering
goods, textile products to steel structure as well as heavy industries
are steadily growing in Pakistan. He said it is a high time that people
of Sri Lanka should avail the opportunity for making joint venture in
the different industrial fields for strengthening the economy of Sri Lanka.”

He gave the following remarks in visitor’s book. We were very impressed
by the quality of products and the diversity of the industries in Gujranwala.
We saw in the exhibition a great potential for good manufactured in Pakistan.
There is a good market of these products in Sri Lanka. It is pertinent
to mention that a free trade agreement between our two nations is under
discussion and once it is signed the trade increase to manifold in future.
I wish to congratulate the Gujranwala Chamber for arranging an excellent
industrial exhibition in Gujranwala”.

At the end of the ceremony President of the Chamber Kh. Tahir Hassan
presented him a shield of the Exhibition for commemoration of sweet memories
of "Made in Gujranwala 2003" Industrial Exhibition.
